Hello,
Come see us in Fishers and Broad Ripple this Saturday, February 6th to restock your meat supply (sorry, no eggs this month, the hens are resting).
We really appreciate all your emails and support regarding the state Meat and Poultry Inspection Program (MPIP). A huge thank you for all your communications to government officials about the budget cuts. It is wonderful living in America because when the citizens speak positive change can actually happen. Yesterday I received an email from Janelle Thompson at the Indiana Board of Animal Health (BOAH) stating BOAH and the state of Indiana have reached an agreement that cuts to the MPIP will be less than the originally proposed 50%. There will still be changes to the inspection program, but the specifics have not been released. With this news I am hopeful we can still have our meat inspected in an appropriate fashion so there will be no changes in our service to you.
In addition, an amendment to state Senate Bill 35 that would have allowed the BOAH to "assign and change schedules and limit, terminate, or refuse to provide any service under this chapter as needed to accommodate shortages or changes in personnel, other resources, or funding for meat and poultry inspection services" was called to a vote and defeated. Senator Luke Kenley of Noblesville helped in this effort, so if he is your Senator you may want to send him a note of thanks @ http://www.in.gov/legislative/senate_republicans/5315.htm . You may also want to let Governor Daniels know that the efforts to make a budget compromise regarding state meat inspection have been appreciated @ 317-232-4567 or email http://www.in.gov/gov/2631.htm .
This is the second time in the last six years that the state meat inspection program has been in jeopardy and it would be wishful thinking to believe this will be the last time. However, as more and more people realize what you and I already know… that local food, raised right is good for our families, our environment, and our economy… I feel confident our family can keep on farming and your family can keep on eating good food for many years to come.
Thanks so much for your business and commitment, we could not do it without you.
